Top dressing is the addition of a high quality soil or sand dressing layer to a sports pitch to build up irregularities in the turf and maintain a level playing surface.
The general pitch quality is also enhanced through the regular application of top dressing, which can also be used to spread fertiliser to encourage healthy grass growth and improve drainage.
